Industrial FAQs

What is PCM?
PCM or Photochemical Machining is a fabrication process that can create products from various metals and alloys. Refer to More about the PCM Process.
What metals and alloys can you work with?
Chemart has the capability to etch various metals and alloys, which include but are not limited to Alfenol, Alloy 42, Beryllium Copper, Constantan, Copper, Brass, Inconel, Invar, Kovar, Monel, Mumetal, Phosphor Bronze, Steel, Stainless Steel, Tin, etc. Please contact one of our Industrial experts for capabilities on specialty/electronic metals and alloys.
What is the setup cost?
To create the tool, typically referred to as the photo-tool, charges can be a little a $180 and can range from there based on design specifications and size of components.
What metal do you have in stock?
ChemArt stocks hundreds of different metals in different thicknesses and temper. In the case the material specified is not in stock, ChemArt can either receive in materials from the buyer or order materials based on the quantity needed to produce the parts.
What tolerance can you hold on my parts?
The standard tolerance is typically 10% of the thickness of the metal or alloy used to produce the part. See our Design Guidelines for more details.
What thickness material can you work with?
Metals can be 0.0005" (0.0127mm) to .0900" (2.286mm) thickness. The typical range is up to .0600" (1.500mm).
How long will it take to produce my parts?
Typical turnaround time is measured in days rather than weeks. Exact timeframes will be calculated based on availability of materials, quantity of parts and secondary services required.
What else can you do besides etching?
ChemArt performs a number of primary and secondary process that include but are not limited to PCM, screen printing, heat treating, passivating, finishing, painting, forming, bending, and plating.
What form of payment do you accept?
MC/Visa/Amex, we can also extend a line of credit based on an initial review.
Are you ISO certified?
Yes, ChemArt is certified in ISO 9001:2000.
What types of files can I send you?
We can accept CAD files (.dxf, .dwg), Adobe files, Illustrator files and many more.
Do you have Independent Reps that sell your services?
Yes, contact us to learn more about becoming an authorized agent or independent rep.
Am I able to visit your facility during the manufacturing process?
Yes, we welcome the chance to walk you through our facility and give you a short-course tutorial on the PCM process and its advantages.
Can I upload a file for quotation?
Yes, visit our request for quote section to fill in the appropriate forms along with your files for quotation?
Do you offer any packaging options?
ChemArt will work with you on the best methods for packaging and shipping to meet your needs and your budget.
What chemicals are used to etch the metals/alloys?
There are various types of etchants used in the industry, a common one is Ferric Chloride. Waste management and clean manufacturing are taken into consideration when choosing the right etchant.
