Rural Health Services Consortium and University Medical Group

Employee-appreciation gifts are always warmly welcomed, and often a difficult decision to make for the purchaser. With so many items on the market, organizations want to be sure they are picking something unique and heart-felt, but also something that reflects the organization and the wonderful work and pride that each employee puts into their jobs every day. Two health care groups have chosen ChemArt for their annual employee gift, each with their own unique needs and concerns:

Rural Health Service Consortium, Inc is a private, non-profit corporation founded in 1985 to provide affordable quality healthcare to all who seek medical treatment in the Northeast Tennessee area. Every year, the Consortium holds a holiday luncheon for their employees as a celebration for the holiday season as well as an expression of thanks for all the hard work done throughout the year. Faye Kern, Executive Assistant, wanted to create “an impressive lasting Christmas memory” for all the employees. In the past they had done some less expensive ornaments, but Faye decided to step it up a notch.

In 2006, Faye contacted ChemArt to design a custom piece that would “represent the company in a sophisticated, unique manner”. The first year was a simple, yet elegant rendition of the Consortium’s logo with their tag line, “Our Primary Care is People” delicately wrapped along the bottom of the piece. The ornaments were gift boxed and presented to each employee at their place setting at the luncheon. The reaction was enormously positive and has grown even bigger with each year. Faye has continued each year to work with ChemArt’s Graphics department to come up with a unique design that celebrates the holiday theme and incorporates the Consortium’s identity.

Faye says many employees are now collectors. “When the time rolls around to place a new order, I always feel like it’s one of the most important decisions I make all year.”

University Medical Group (UMG) is a tax-exempt, Rhode Island professional corporation composed of sixty-one (61) academic and clinical physicians in four Departments:  Medicine, Dermatology, Surgery, and Pathology. Additionally, UMG provides teaching and administrative services to Roger Williams Medical Center, a Boston University School of Medicine affiliate.  In additional to teaching, UMG is responsible for maintaining the accreditation of the teaching programs.

Every year Carol Schwartz, Controller, is given the task of coordinating the group’s annual holiday party as well as coming up with a unique gift for all of the employees. She wanted to appeal to the multitude of faiths in her organization, while keeping the spirit of the holidays.

Carol had received ChemArt ornaments as Christmas gifts in years past, and wondered if they could create a non-denominational keepsake that could be used to thank her employees, but also maintain the identity of the group. Working with ChemArt artists, she created a business card-shaped keepsake that was packaged with a ribbon, using the group identity in the design, with the functionality of either a bookmark or an ornament.
This unique solution was something of an epiphany in the creative process for Carol. “I was working with ChemArt on how to create a gift to satisfy the many faiths of our employees and suddenly we had that ‘aha’ moment where it all came together.” All the physicians and staff were very pleased with their gift, which reflected both a useful year-round piece and a holiday keepsake.
